Cell Propagators
Thereare several reasons to propagate cells continuously. Microbial cells
are often the starting material for isolation of their enzymes. Such enzymes
are used in industry, used for various types of biochemical analysis, and are
used in research. It is easy to cultivate the microorganisms in a batch
reactor, but large quantities of cells can be made in a smaller vessel
operated continuously. Furthermore, some enzymes are in higher
concentrations in cells that are growing rapidly, and continuous bioreactors
can have cells growing rapidly with a high proportion of cells that are
relatively physiologically young.
